Members of Hawaii’s Japanese community and Buddhist leaders will gather on Friday, July 17, 2026 at Makiki Cemetery for the United Japanese Society of Hawaii Obon Houyo Memorial Service. The service begins at 9:00 AM and will conclude around 9:30 AM at Makiki Cemetery. It will be co-officiated by Takami Inoue of Higashi Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii and Bishop Toshiyuki Umitani of Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii.
