Nenchosha Ian Engai Taikai【51 st Annual Senior Citizen Festival】

Published: 11/26/2025

On a bright sunny day in Waipio, UJSH honored members reaching the milestone age of 80 years. Twenty-one individuals all born in 1946, represented 11 organizations and Kenjin Kai in Hawaii.

Nenchosha was created by UJSH, to honor senior members in the Japanese community and in a small way to congratulate them for their longevity and thank them for their contributions to the community and their families. This event coincides with the annual Japanese national holiday Keiro no Hi, Respect for the Aged Day – held on the 3 rd Monday in September.

This year a celebratory party was held on September 27 th , at the Hawaii Okinawa Center. Honorees were treated to a Hawaiian lunch buffet and entertained by talented members in our cultural community. Upon their arrival they were lei-ed and given a shopping bag of gifts from generous members and clubs in our organization. Each honoree was presented a Certificate of Recognition from UJSH President-Elect Lynn Araki-Regan and photo’d with Lynn and Deputy Consul General Hiroki Haruta. When our 21 honorees left the event decked in gifts of lei and well wished, each honoree was gifted a red anthurium plant.
