Our History
In 1955, the Issei from Hiroshima prefecture created the Wahiawa Hiroshima Kenjin Kai made up of 175 families (350 members). They settled in Wahiawa because of job opportunities at Schofield Barracks and the pineapple industry.
A few years later residents of Waialua were invited to join and form the Wahiawa-Waialua Hiroshima Kenjin Kai. They added about 30 families to the organization.
Mission
To promote mutual friendship, understanding and welfare among it’s members. To develop a better understanding and friendship between Japan and the United States of America. To take part in the internal and external public activities of the Wahiawa and Waialua district.

Congratulations and thank you to the United Japanese Society of Hawaii for providing the kenjin kais a vehicle to spread and perpetuate the legacy of our birth. It is vitally important that we continue to keep alive our identity in the multi-cultural society of Hawaii. It is our duty to always honor our ancestors who sacrificed their lives so we may enjoy ours today.
