Our History

The initial founding of the Niigata Kenjinkai was for the purpose of rescuing a death row inmate of Niigata roots. The immigrants from Niigata united in support of their fellow Niigata-Kenjin. On April 13, 1909 the kenjinkai was founded by Torakichi Kimura, Seijiro Goto and Mankichi Kikuchi to organize the Niigata Kenjinkai
reportedly with 205 members, with the goal of supporting the immigrants from Niigata who were enduring hardship, language barriers, and slave like work conditions away from their homeland. On April 13, 1909 Mr. Torakichi Kimura became the first president. Today, the legacy of the Niigata Kenjinkai still continues to keep the kenjinkai intact and preserve the legacy of the Niigata Kenjinkai.
