Our History

Originally named Wahiawa-Waialua Kumamoto Kenjin Kai, our Kenjin Kai was made up of descendants of the Kumamoto Issei who came to Oahu to work in the sugar plantations.

Mission

To preserve the values and traditions of our Issei forefathers by encouraging our Yonsei and Gosei family members to participate in our Kenjin Kai activities.

Events

New Year’s Party

Held in February at Dot’s in Wahiawa. Following a general membership meeting, we present certificates from the Kumamoto Prefectural Government to our 80- and 88-year old members, have a delicious lunch, games and entertainment by members.

Annual cleanup of the Ehime Maru Memorial

Each year, COKK members clean the memorial at the Kakaako Park

Kenjin Kai Outstanding Member

Each year, COKK recognizes its Outstanding Member at the UJSH Event, along with other kenjinkai.

The Central Oahu Kumamoto Kenjin Kai is a social club made up of families and individuals who have their roots in Wahiawa, Waialua and Mililani. While our COKK activities are few, we actively participate in the legacy events of the United Japanese Society of Hawaii.
